Jewelry; Jewelry designer: making handmade glass beads and bespoke one-of-a- kind art-glass jewelry
Beth Williams is a studio jeweler and glass beadmaker whose original focus in metals shifted to incorporate the kaleidoscope of colors and textures that glass now contributes to her work. Combining glass, gold, and silver, Beth creates contemporary elegant jewelry that is colorful, playful and sculptural. From her earliest beginnings in stained (“flat”) glass, Beth’s designs included jewelry as well as windows, functional pieces and sculpture. The transition to metalworking allowed her to focus more on smaller scale work and specifically jewelry. She has now been making lampworked beads since 1993, although beads of various media had been a focal point and inspiration for many years. In 1994 Beth set up a lampworking studio and gallery and now works fulltime creating beads and finished jewelry, specializing in custom work for clients.
Beth’s designs balance all the elements in her materials, resulting in pieces that the owner can wear with comfort and pleasure. Pure gold granules accent the surface of many of Beth’s lampworked beads, reflecting her signature style that has been recognized in publications and exhibitions across the country.
Beth’s work can be found in several galleries and museums in the Boston area, as well as venues in Washington DC, Dallas TX, Pittsburg PA and other parts of the U.S. Her designs have been selected over the years for inclusion in many juried and invitational exhibitions, museum shows, catalogues and books. She maintains a working studio
