The Essex County Artist Fund is Essex County Community Foundation’s response to the immediate and everyday needs of artists to be supported and lifted up across the county and across sectors. At ECCF, our philosophy is to build a creative ecosystem focused on awareness and appreciation for arts and culture, capacity building, collaboration, and cultural planning. Individual artists and arts/culture organizations are key to this network. www.eccf.org/creative-county.
Artist Name: Aliana de la Guardia – Haverhill

Creative Practice: I am a full time professional classical soprano and my practice consists of collaborating with composers to produce new chamber music and opera, as well as a full time private voice teacher in Haverhill, MA. As a professional soprano I have appeared in concerts and opera productions locally most recently with ATLAS UNLIMITED (NYC), Spectrum (NYC), New York Transduction Festival (NYC), Mountain Time Arts (MT), and locally with Guerilla Opera, Dinosaur Annex, Boston New Music Festival, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and can be heard on commercial labels Navona Records and BMOP Sound. This year as co-artistic director of Guerilla Opera I was selected as a protégé for OPERA America’s Women’s Opera Network Mentorship Program for Women in Opera, a highly competitive program selecting only three women each year, shadowing the vice president of classical and opera programming for Walf Trapp Opera, Lee Anne Myslewski. I will also protégé Double Edge Theater shadowing producing director Adam Bright and co-artistic director Carlos Uriona with the support of a Public Art Learning grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts. As a private voice teacher in Haverhill I teach one-on-one lessons with singers ranging from local youth to professional singer songwriters around the country.
Artist Statement: As a Haverhill resident I have donated my singing to city events as well as fundraisers for other organizations such as the Cogswell Art Space, as well as created partnerships between my ensemble, Guerilla Opera, and local community organizations to stimulate tourism, cultural and economical growth by presenting extraordinary artists and connecting them to our community, while simultaneously bringing new works to new audiences who are hungry for artistic experiences. As a private voice teacher, my studio concerts at the end of each year are also fundraisers for important charities selected by my students, which teaches and empowers local youth to use their artistic talents to support causes they care about.
