The Essex County Artist Fund is Essex County Community Foundation’s response to the immediate and everyday needs of artists to be supported and lifted up across the county and across sectors. At ECCF, our philosophy is to build a creative ecosystem focused on awareness and appreciation for arts and culture, capacity building, collaboration, and cultural planning. Individual artists and arts/culture organizations are key to this network. www.eccf.org/creative-county.
Artist Name: Kate Hanlon – Newburyport
Learn more: www.katehanlon.com, @kate_hanlon_art
Creative Practice: I’m primarily a printmaker, focusing on woodcut and white line woodcut for the past 25 years. I have been a regular member of the teaching staff at Concord Art in Concord, MA, and had just begun offering workshops out of Indigo Studio in Newburyport. I also perform and teach Irish fiddle. I’m a member of the Boston Printmakers and the Society of American Graphic Artists. In addition to selling my work and teaching, I have worked as a pet sitter for many years, a side gig that not only gets me out of the studio but informs my work, as I travel the byways of Essex County. I also have an active drawing and painting practice, and am represented by Powers Gallery in Acton, MA as well as Paramour Fine Arts in Franklin, MI.
Artist Statement: My work is not political, but reflects life on the North Shore; its society and environment.
