The Essex County Artist Fund is Essex County Community Foundation’s response to the immediate and everyday needs of artists to be supported and lifted up across the county and across sectors. At ECCF, our philosophy is to build a creative ecosystem focused on awareness and appreciation for arts and culture, capacity building, collaboration, and cultural planning. Individual artists and arts/culture organizations are key to this network. www.eccf.org/creative-county.
Artist Name: Margaret Frederiksen – Beverly
Learn more: firstname.lastname@example.org
Creative Practice: For the past two years I have been both a part-time dance instructor through Boston Ballet’s Adaptive Dance Program as well as the assistant choreographer, treasurer, and a performer with The Baphomettes Burlesque troupe based out of Salem, MA. We perform monthly/every other month in local performance spaces and had previously had a residency at Opus in Salem prior to their change in GM.
Artist Statement: The Baphomettes have helped provide a safe space for our audiences and celebrates acceptance of all bodies, genders, nationalities, ethnicities, presentations, and orientations. Every body is a burlesque body. We also incorporate a love of horror, spook, and quirk that exists outside of the classical/traditional burlesque scope and embrace the weirdness of performance art expression.
