Love the idea of fresh-cut bouquets but unsure about how to grow them in your own garden? Join floral designer Mary Beth Hayes of Semper Virens for a gardening how-to workshop and begin your journey to freshly picked flowers all the time!
This class will cover a range of topics: location, soil prep, easy plants to grow (including annuals, perennials, herbs, etc), maintenance, weeding and feeding, harvesting and flower conditioning. Hayes will include a demonstration of how to create a hand-tied bouquet from your future blooms, which will go home with a lucky winner from the evening. Participants are encouraged to bring an aerial image of their property to include in an exercise of initial garden design while perusing seed catalogs and sourcing inspiration for the spring.
It brings a gardener so much joy to walk through your cutting garden, making floral bouquets for yourself and others, and seeing all the sleepy bees at dawn and dusk – won’t you join them?
Mary Beth Hayes is a freelance floral designer in Chelmsford, MA, who focuses on seasonal, nature-based design. She has studied with notable floral designers including Francoise Weeks, Hitomi Gilliam and Holly Heider Chapple.
This lecture is part of a new Wednesday evening winter workshop series offered at The Stevens-Coolidge Place.
