Salem State Art + Design Faculty Showcase

This annual event features the work of faculty from within Salem State University’s nationally accredited Art + Design Department. Works by both full-time and adjunct studio faculty in printmaking, painting, design, sculpture, photography and various other media are exhibited.

Exhibition curator Ken Reker has modeled the Faculty Showcase on the random stream of images that one might expect to find on a Facebook news feed.  Reker shares,”Not being a participant in the online social media experiment, I was fascinated to read about the array of seemingly unrelated, often un-contextualized images that stream across social media feeds daily; 687 billion images a year. As a means of de-personalizing my process of arranging the art works, I collected the work from my colleagues and lined them up around the gallery walls, with the images facing against the wall. My only criteria for the works’ arrangement was size; the largest to the smallest. I chose scale because dimensions are an indeterminate factor online.”
