Taranto, "The First Pearl Harbor"

Presented by Wenham Museum at Patton Homestead, South Hamilton MA

Taranto, "The First Pearl Harbor"

Author Chris O’Connor will be at the Patton Homestead talking about his book “Taranto: The Raid, The Observer, The Aftermath”.

In O’Connor’s book Taranto: The Raid, The Observer, The Aftermath, he talks about the Taranto raid and tells the entire story of Taranto and its relevance to Pearl Harbor.

More than a year before the attack on Pearl Harbor, aircraft of the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm executed a surprise attack on ships of the Italian Fleet anchored in the harbor of Taranto. Historians have seen the raid on Taranto as a precursor to the larger and more devastating strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy.
