VERSE/VISUAL 2021

Creators Cynthia August and Sarah Vickery proudly present the third year of VERSE/VISUAL.
It is a verbal and visual exchange between writers and image-makers. Based on a project done by The New York Times in 2017, we pair a writer and an image maker, supply them with an inspiration piece created by one of the two participants, and ask them to create a new piece inspired by it.
Usually, we have a gallery show at Gathr, Ipswich’s co-working and event space,
but CV19 demanded innovation, so we created a hybrid show that has both an online gallery and a community art walk.
The art walk is comprised of QR code signs, as the weather improves, the outdoor show will grow to include small weatherproof blocks featuring writing excerpts and image details, rain poetry and a community poet-tree.
As you wander around Ipswich, you might come upon one of our QR codes at a favorite place – the Ipswich Museum, Zumi’s, or High Street Studios for example! Each one links to a different piece – you might hear a poem, see an image, watch a dance or a short film. They are all exploring this year’s theme, “Vessel’.
