The Essex County Artist Fund is Essex County Community Foundation’s response to the immediate and everyday needs of artists to be supported and lifted up across the county and across sectors. At ECCF, our philosophy is to build a creative ecosystem focused on awareness and appreciation for arts and culture, capacity building, collaboration, and cultural planning.  Individual artists and arts/culture organizations are key to this network. www.eccf.org/creative-county.

Creative Practice:After a decade in a corporate job, I switched careers in 2016 to pursue my passion for clay full time. I am now a studio ceramic artist working in both wheelthrown and handbuilt porcelain, and since 2018 have been primarily selling my work through large fine craft fairs like CraftBoston, Paradise City, etc. I am also a ceramics instructor at The Clay School in Lynn, where I have been teaching since September 2018. The Clay School is where my love of ceramics was born. I attended five years of classes there before deciding to jump head first into clay as a full time pursuit. I love passing that passion on to my students and helping them achieve ceramics milestones big and small.

Artist Statement: My work is inspired by my walks through nearby conservation lands and beaches, focusing on birches, burnt logs, tides, clouds, and the sensory connections we share with these bits of nature even when we aren’t paying attention. I use both handbuilt and wheel-thrown porcelain forms, carvings, slips, and glazes to create or obscure texture, light, and shadow to explore the relationship between what we see and what we feel when we interact with ceramics.
